1898年由贝林纳兄弟(Emile Berliner与Joseph Berliner)在德国汉堡成立,当时名为德意志留声机唱片公司(Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft,简称DGG),注册商标为"录音天使"(Recording Angel).当时成立此公司主要是为设在英国的留声机公司(由Emile Berliner创立)制造留声机与唱片.DGG在成立之初曾先后为男低音夏里亚宾、男高音卡鲁索与女高音梅尔芭(Nellie Melbe)等录制过唱片.
在DG出版的唱片中,有几个较有特色的系列:
一、The Originals(原声系列),1995年开始出版,其是将DG在LP时代的"大花版"唱片转制成CD,以再现当年珍贵的录音.
二、Sample(样本系列),这是一个低价位的系列,由五张CD组成,分为管弦乐类;协奏曲与器乐独奏类;室内乐;歌剧与合唱作品类;档案类(古乐).
三、Karajan Gold(卡拉扬金牌系列),此系列主要是DG公司用新开发出的4D录音技术将80年代的一些录音重新处理,以让卡拉扬晚年的杰作能得以更清晰地传达给爱乐者.
四、Double(双张系列),此由法国DG推出,每辑以音乐类型或音乐家分类,是一个价低质优的系列(对老录音重新作了处理).
DG为庆祝其诞生100周年,特推出了两套名为The Yellow Guide(黄标指南)的唱片,分为"古典音乐"与"歌剧"两套,用以引导对西洋古典音乐不熟悉的朋友进入古典之门.其每套唱片由三张CD组成,在唱片里均有一本对所收曲目的创作背景,作曲家以及常见音乐术语的简介.唱片中的音乐家与乐团均为世界著名的,是一本"小而全"的"有声音乐词典".
